Some weddings are remembered for elaborate décor, grand venues, or breathtaking floral displays.
Others are remembered for something far more meaningful.
On June 13, 2026, Deanna Colbeck and Andre Cranston stood together on a simple brick patio at The Castle at Swan Lake Hotel overlooking the North Okanagan. There were no extravagant decorations, no elaborate staging, and no desire to impress anyone.
There were simply green trees, blue skies, the people they loved most, and two people who couldn’t wait to become husband and wife.
Sometimes, that’s all you need.
“Can We Start Early?”
As guests gathered for the 3:45 p.m. ceremony, one thing quickly became clear.
Andre was ready.
In fact, he quietly asked Deirdre if the ceremony could begin before the scheduled time because he simply couldn’t wait to marry Deanna. The only reason they waited was for the photographer to arrive.
That eagerness said everything.
There was no focus on creating the “perfect” wedding. The focus was on beginning their life together.
When Love Becomes the Centrepiece
One of the greatest privileges of being a wedding officiant is witnessing moments that can’t be planned.
Just before Andre began speaking his vows, he looked at Deanna.
Not just a glance.
He truly looked at her.
It was one of those rare moments where words almost became unnecessary. You could see him silently committing his heart and future to the woman standing before him. It was a look filled with complete trust, gratitude, and unconditional love.
Moments like that remind Deirdre why she is so passionate about creating meaningful wedding ceremonies.

A Ceremony That Didn’t Need Perfection
As an experienced officiant, Deirdre McCarvill is a strong advocate for wedding rehearsals. They help everyone feel comfortable and allow ceremonies to unfold smoothly.
Ironically, this ceremony proved that sometimes love has its own plans.
Everything flowed naturally.
There was no pressure.
No worrying about timelines.
No concern over whether every tiny detail was exactly right.
The only unexpected interruption came when the June heat became so intense that one guest nearly fainted. The ceremony was briefly paused while everyone made sure the guest was comfortable before continuing.
Because that’s what real life—and real love—looks like.
With the temperature climbing, Deirdre made the decision to shorten the ceremony by skipping several planned readings and elements.
And you know what?
Nothing was lost.
The heart of the ceremony remained exactly where it belonged: with Deanna and Andre.
Every Couple Has a Story Worth Telling
When Deanna and Andre first contacted Cherished Ceremonies after finding Deirdre through a Google search for Vernon wedding officiants, each completed a questionnaire to help begin crafting their ceremony.
Deanna provided thoughtful, detailed answers.
Andre… not so much.
Most of his responses were only a word or two.
Rather than relying solely on the questionnaire, Deirdre asked if they could meet in person.
The two spent more than an hour sitting together on the couple’s back deck, simply talking.
Some people don’t express themselves easily on paper.
But face-to-face?
Andre came alive.
As he shared how they met, how they fell in love, and what Deanna meant to him, his personality shone through. That conversation allowed Deirdre to create a ceremony that truly reflected who they are—not simply what had been written on a questionnaire.
It’s one of the reasons every ceremony created by Cherished Ceremonies is so personal.

Surrounded by the People Who Matter Most
With approximately 15 family members and close friends in attendance, the atmosphere was intimate and deeply emotional.
There were tears.
There were smiles.
The father of the bride beamed with pride throughout the ceremony.
Every person present could feel just how genuine this moment was.
An Unexpected Gift
Sometimes beautiful things happen when people simply say “yes.”
When Deirdre learned the couple hadn’t arranged for a photographer, she reached out to her friend Arianna Ormrod to see if she might be willing to take a few photographs.
She arrived with her Nikon camera and quietly documented the afternoon with incredible care and talent.
The resulting images beautifully captured not just what the wedding looked like—but what it felt like.
A few weeks later, Deirdre received this heartfelt message from the newlyweds:
“Words cannot express how grateful we are for everything you did to make our wedding special. The pictures are so beautiful. They honestly captured the way both of us felt throughout the ceremony and afterwards as husband and wife. For people we have never met before to spend the time and effort to give us these memories is certainly something we will never forget. Our deepest appreciation.”

The couple had also shared this wonderful review shortly after the ceremony:
“From our very first conversation, we knew Deirdre was the perfect person to marry us. She is accommodating, organized and took the time to get to know us in order to create our love story. It gave our friends and family an opportunity to understand what brought us together and how we fell in love with each other. She made our ceremony so very personal and so special, truly a day we will never forget.”

Love Doesn’t Need an Audience
One of the things that stood out most to Deirdre about Deanna and Andre’s wedding was how little they cared about appearances.
They weren’t trying to impress anyone.
They weren’t chasing trends.
They weren’t focused on creating the “perfect” Instagram wedding.
They simply wanted to be married.
In a world that often encourages bigger, grander, and more elaborate celebrations, their wedding was a beautiful reminder that the most unforgettable ceremonies are often the simplest ones.
Because at the end of the day, the flowers fade, the decorations come down, and the music ends.
Love is what remains.
